I started out my life as a drama queen. I was always singing, dancing, playing instruments, and acting in plays. My dream was to be on Broadway. My mother, however, recommended that I should have something to fall back on. Although it turned out nicely, I have to say that the problem with having something to fall back on is... you'll probably fall back on it. Lucky for me, training can be just as gratifying (from the perspective of the attention junkie), so I have no complaints.
I've been a training professional since 1991. During that time, I've experienced some kick-ass training experiences; I've also experienced some sleep-inducing training experiences.
Like many people, I've experienced no small amount of career drift; I started out managing a temporary employment agency (and if anything will prepare you for a career in management, that'd be it!), and then branched off into training, curriculum design, and documentation design. That ultimately led to IT project management, which finally brought me right back to training - only now in a management capacity for a pharmaceutical company in the top 20 of the Fortune 500. Y'all, I know more about Title 21 of the Code of Federal Regulations (the section that covers the Food and Drug Act) than I ever thought possible.
Throughout the course of my career, I've been fortunate enough to work with some terrific leaders - and even more fortunate to work with some horrific leaders. Both groups taught me valuable lessons in managing people, implementing change, and making a difference in a corporate environment.
At this stage of my career, I'm ready to start working with companies outside my "home" organization; I want to help businesses get better through effective, human management, meaningful employee engagement, and a stronger culture, overall. And if I can help a few folks learn how to give presentations that will wow their audiences instead of putting them to sleep, then I'll consider myself very successful, indeed.
I live just outside of Nashville, Tennessee with my nine-year-old son, and I'm available for speaking, training, and consulting work.
If you'd prefer actual conversation to e-mail chatter, feel free to call me at 615-330-8132.
Reading, all types of music, old movies, new movies, and most of all, spending time with my son.
